GENERAL MEDICINE:

Problems:

1. Low awareness of disease in rural areas
2. Untreated diabetes and hypertension (high BP) due to lack of knowledge regarding the disease and its complication delayed diagnosis, economic constraints to get appropriate treatment and traditional misbelieves.

3. Iron deficiency anemia among ladies due to lack of nutrition, multiply pregnancies, worm infestation.

Solution:

1.Health education regarding benefits of healthy diet and better sanitation. Advice to quit smoking, alcohol, gutka etc.

2.Screening for diabetes and hypertension after 40 years of age.

PSYCHIATRY:

Problems:

1. Mental retardation among children due to

2. Viral infection during pregnancy

3. Marriages within the family

4. Trauma during pregnancy

5. Iodine deficiency

6. Due to in appropriate delivery techniques used by dhai (ayah) prolonged labour leads to suffocation of baby leading to mental retardation.

7. Lack of nutrition food for mother during pregnancy and also maternal stress could have impact on baby.

8. Schizophrenia (psychosis) many found in rural areas particularly married women who have been harassed by their husbands or abandoned by their husbands leading to stress, depression, anxiety and eventually to psychiatric illness.

Solution:

1. If proper training is provided to mentally retarded children as in special schools, they can be made to do their routine work such as brushing, eating, wearing their clothes themselves and doing at least household works when they grow up.

2. Prevention of mental retardation by providing good antenatal care for pregnant women

3. Government provides disability certificate for mentally retarded children gives special benefits.

4. Schizophrenia is treatable disease. Requires multi-modality treatment including medicines, shock treatment & counseling. Social &economic rehabilitation also plays an important role

GYNECOLOGY:

Problems:

1. Weak women carrying underweight babies.

2. Suffering from urinary tract infection and white discharge for several years which if not suitably treated may leads to kidney failure and other serious complications.

Solutions:

1. Pregnant women need to be educated regarding consuming food including milk and green vegetables. Importance of personal hygiene need to be stressed

2. Government has made programs for better care of pregnant women. Iron and vitamin tablets are distributed, TT injections given, HIV tablets and test for other sexually transmitted disease done, ultra sound scan done to check growth of baby. All of this is done free of cost in government hospital.

3. Delivery in hospital should be compulsory where scientific techniques of child birth is employed to prevent danger to mother and child

4. Urinary tract infection can be treated after necessary lab test with medicines. It can be prevented by good personal care and drinking plenty of water.

PEDIATRICS:

Problems:

1. Malnutrition (lack of proper food) affects mental development and physical growth of children

2. Unhygienic food leading to gastrointestinal complication and further malnutrition.

3. Respiratory infection

4. Skin problems (scabies) found in many children which is due to poor personal hygiene and overcrowding in house.

Solution:

1. Adults have to be educated regarding proper acre of pregnant mother, breast feeding of babies for minimum of six months, immunization of babies according to government programs and abolish certain superstitions concerning child rearing

2. Children have to be educated regarding washing hands before eating food and after sneezing, coughing, covering their mouth while coughing etc.

SKIN:

Problems

1. Cracked feet (fissured feet ) seen in people of all age group (6-60 years) due to continues water contact

2. Fungal infection of nails and skin

Solution:

1. To keep hands and feet dry of water, lubricate hands and feet with oil, wearing footwear regularly.

2. Skin infection can be prevented by bathing regularly and wearing clean clothes included burkha.

OPHTHALMOLOGY:

Problems:

1. Refractive error (diminution of far vision) in younger population.

2. Cataract after 50 years.

Solution:

1. Cataract surgery is done in eye camps and govt. set up free of cost.

2. Reading glass for old people is distributed in camps.

3. School children (5-15 years) screening for vision defects have to be done and corrected with spectacles at an early stage.

ENT:

Problems:

1. Incorrect breast feeding style leading to ear disease in babies

2. Self cleaning of ears with sticks, hair pin causing perforation of ear drum, whereas cleaning of ears is not required at all.

3.Prolonged discharge of ear could lead to throat infection or even to brain complication if not consulted to the doctor in time.

Solution:

1. Seeking early medicine advice for recurrent sore throat and nasal allergies can prevent more severe disease.

2. Deaf and blind people are provided with disability certificate and can avail several benefits from the govt.

 

Govt. issues BPL (below poverty line) card for poor people. Using which they can avail medicine and surgical benefits absolutely free in govt. hospital

KIDNEY FAILURE

PRE-RENAL CAUSES:

1. Heart failure(CHF)

RENAL CAUSES:

1. Medication: N SAIDs (pain killers), ACEI, cisplatin

2. Poison: mercury, snake bite
