One who has lost parents is considered an orphan. Every child who goes through this most critical phase of life without enjoying parental care is considered an orphan and this loss can have serious implications on their mental health. Children constitute 2.2 billion of the estimated 7.7 billion of the world’s population but remain at risk. According to internationally accepted figures, there are at least 140 million orphans in the world.
